Onyebuchi Begs For Long Camping Ahead Of Tokyo 2020


Team Nigeria’s only gold medallist at just concluded Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOCA) World Beach Games tagged QATAR 2019 Blessing Onyebuchi has urged the Sports Ministry to camp athletes for a minimum of four months if the country wants to win medals at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The African wrestling champion who defeated Rasangela Reasco Valdez 3-0 at the Katara Beach to earn Nigeria’s first historic gold medal at the Games warned that only proper preparation in a closed camp would ensure fewer distractions ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo.

” On the Olympics”, she said, ” the Ministry should put athletes in camp for about three to four months, motivate us with provisions and allowances in time will help us to do well in Tokyo.”

She added that being kept in the camp would ensure maximum concentration and keep them focused on the Games.

Blessing who arrived the country with the wrestling and the beach volleyball teams from Doha warned that her rivals who she defeated in the +70 weight class would go back to their countries and put in more preparations to upstage her and as such she can not afford to rest on her oars.
