Fatai-Williams declares Swimming Events of 11th Nigerian Navy Games Open


The President of Aquatics Federation of Nigeria, Mr Babatunde Fatai-Williams who was also the Special Guest of Honour at the event yesterday declared the 11th edition of Nigerian Navy Games (Water Sports) opened amidst pumps and pageantry.

The week-long sporting events which commenced on Monday 6th February 2017 at Navy Sailing Club, Ojo Town, Lagos with Kayak, Yachting and Canoeing including Swimming events scheduled for Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere, Lagos will not come to an end on 11th of the same month in the Eastern part of the country, Uyo without other proposed sports being competed for.

Meanwhile, the events brought together sports administrators businessmen and women not alike leaving out Naval commands from the different part of the country amongst which are, Western Naval Command, Eastern Naval Command, Central Naval Command, NAVTRAC and Naval Logistics Command who all came wrestle one another for glory.

Mr Fatai-Williams commended Nigerian Navy for putting in place a well-articulated sports programme geared towards improving the physical and mental fitness of its personnel.

However, the President in his address said he hope to see untapped talents discovered who will, in turn, do the Navy as well as Nigeria proud when the time comes.

“I believe with this event, talents will be discovered and developed to fill in the gap in this area in our future sports competitions”.

“There’s no doubt about the fact that you’ve undergone intense training but your performance in this event will prove to the crowd how hard you’ve trained”. he stated

In conclusion, the Aquatics Federation President implored the athletes to always exhibit a high-level spirit of sportsmanship, knowing that this is just a game and advised not to do anything that could lead to disqualification.
